An increase in gas prices from October 1 is to dominate the energy regulator DKEVR's agenda on Tuesday.

The watchdog's session comes as state-owned gas company Bulgargaz has demanded a 1.6-percent hike.

Svetla Todorova, who has recently been appointed Chair of DKEVR, maintains bills are not expected to go up this autumn and also that Bulgargaz's claim that prices have to soar in order to support the system are lacking evidence.

Gas prices paid by consumers are tied to those of hot water and heating.

Electricity bills are however expected to go up, with DKEVR having issued a report estimating the hike at 10 percent from October 1.
