An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Western Greece on Sunday.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the region of the town of Nafpaktos and it occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers, according to reports of the Focus news agency.

Nafpaktos, which has a population of over 18 000, is situated on a bay on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth.

According to reports of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, several earthquakes were registered in Greece last night.

An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale occurred at 4.13 am local time on Sunday 15 kilometers northeast of Patras at a depth of 10 kilometers.

At 4.43 am on Sunday, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the Island of Crete. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers.
