Russia and Egypt have reached a preliminary deal on USD 3.5 B worth of weapons, with anti-missile equipment and pieces of artillery to be sold to Cairo, Moscow official say.

Alexander Fomin, head of Russia's Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation, announced the deal while on an international arms trade fair in South Africa, Interfax news agency reports.

Fomin did not elaborate on the deals any further.

Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi visited Russia, the world's second-largest arms exporter, in February this year, prompting reports large-scale deliveries of arms had been agreed.

Russian defense equipment manufacturer Rosoboronexport's CEO Anatoly Isaykin, who was also at the arms fair, announced his company was unperturbed by the Western sanctions hitting Russia's arms industry, with outstanding deals valued at USD 38.7 B.
