Weapons Inspectors Returned to Iraq

The first United Nations weapons inspectors in four years have returned to Baghdad to begin implementing a tough new UN mandate aimed at disarming Iraq. Heading the team, chief inspector Hans Blix said that their arrival heralded a "new opportunity," and stressed that the inspections would be "professional". "The situation is tense at the moment but this is a new opportunity," Mr Blix told reporters at Baghdad's airport. Speaking in Bosnia, Secretary General Kofi Annan urged Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein "to comply fully for the sake of his people, for the sake of the region and for the sake of the whole world".
