In 2013 Bulgaria's exports totaled BGN 43.6 B, up by 7.2% on the year, according to data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
In 2013, Bulgaria imported goods worth a total of BGN 50.5 B (at CIF prices), up by 1.4% on the year.
Bulgaria's foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in 2013, amounting to BGN 7.0 B, down by BGN 2.2 B compared to 2012.
At FOB/FOB prices (after the elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the negative balance for 2013 added up to BGN 4.8 B.
There were annual increases in most of the categories of exported goods (following the Standard International Trade Classification).
The largest growth, at 20.2%, was recorded in the group of „Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes".
The only decrease, at 2.9%, was registered in the group of "Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials."
As regards imports, the largest increases were recorded in the groups of „Beverages and tobacco" (by 10.8%) and "Miscellaneous manufactured articles" (by 9.9%).
The most notable decrease, at 13.4%, was reported in the group of "Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes."
In 2013, Bulgaria's exports to EU countries increased by 9.1% y/y, reaching BGN 26.1 B.
