Bulgaria's Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev expressed his concern with the dragging of the saga around troubled Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB), reports the Bulgarian National Radio.

“The situation has remained unclear for far too long,” Penchev said. “It is high time that an institution finds a solution – either put the bank back in shape of declare it bankrupt. You can't keep people in this agony, this is outrageous. Those months of doing nothing and empty statements are not useful for anyone.”

According to Penchev, it was necessary for someone to take the responsibility and this someone was the Bulgarian National Bank. “I had the opportunity to study the BNB arguments,” he said. “As a jurist, I totally disagree with its legal motives. They are just beating around the bush and passing responsibility to someone else.”

As for Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov's actions regarding KTB, Penchev noted that he had one advantage before him. “When the chief prosecutor invites the BNB management at a meeting, they go marching in parade order”, Penchev said. “But when the ombudsman invites them, they promptly ignore him.”

In Penchev's words, the delays were harming everyone and people were losing their trust.
