Nearly 80 settlements in Bulgaria have been affected by the recent floods, and the state of emergency is still valid in a number of municipalities on Monday.

The country is recovering after the heavy rains and flooding over the weekend, however there are still towns and villages left without electricity.

The preliminary damage assessment in the city of Burgas exceeds BGN 1.5M, Nova Tv reports. Monday has been declared a day of mourning in the Black Sea city after the flood claimed three lives over the weekend.

The situation in the village of Stransko where more than 30 houses were flooded on Saturday is returning to normal. The other two municipalities which were heavily affected by the floods – Harmanli and Simeonovgrad – are also recovering, however the state of emergency is still valid.

A Maritsa river levee near Bulgaria's Dimitrovgrad village of Raynovo broke on Sunday, causing the evacuation of the nearby houses. All families whose houses were flooded, will receive one-off aid of BGN 325 each.

There is a dire need for volunteers, food, water, medical supplies and clothes in the affected areas.
