A Maritsa river levee near Bulgaria's Dimitrovgrad village of Raynovo broke on Sunday, causing the evacuation of ten houses.

Vast areas of agricultural land have been flooded. Mayor of Dimitrovgrad Ivo Dimov expressed hope that in a few hours the huge watershed will be cleaned. According to him, there is no risk for the nearby settlements.

Dimov said that the earlier flooding of the local village of Stransko was caused by the broken dam in the Borovo and Kozarevets villages. The village recovery is underway and the damage assessment will begin on Monday, Bulgaria's National Radio reports.

There is still risk of overflowing of the dam near Svilengrad. The reservoir was reinforced on Saturday night and some 30 people were evacuated.
