The EU Commission has decided to include the Trapezitsa roll in its list of protected food products.
Named after the historical Trapezitsa hill in Veliko Tarnovo, the old capital of Bulgaria, the roll is made of pressed meat from a pork's neck mixed with salt and spices (red and white pepper and garlic).
The Trapezitsa roll is known all across Bulgaria and is not specifically related to the region of Veliko Tarnovo.
In a press release the European Commission has described the roll as "characterized by an extraordinary taste".
In August, two more Bulgarian meat products, the Elena fillet and the Panagyurska sausage, were added to the 1200-strong list.
