Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant was launched 40 years ago today.

A large number of industry workers are to attend the celebrations at the Kozloduy NPP on Thursday, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Eight years prior to the launch, Bulgaria signed an agreement with the former Soviet Union on the N-plant in the northwestern town of Kozloduy.

Three years later, the sod-turning ceremony was held, and on the following year, construction works involving over 100 000 people started.

The Kozloduy NPP was built in 5 years.

It was the first nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and in southeastern Europe.
