It is "obvious" that an alliance between conservative GERB and liberal DPS is in the making, socialist party leader Mihail Mikov said on Sunday.

Mikov made his comments after Boyko Borisov, leader of Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), promised that ten seats of Deputy Ministers will be given out to Muslims if he forms a government after the early elections on October 5.

The recently-elected head of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) also reminded of a statement by a Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) official, who asserted last week his party could work with GERB after the snap poll of the two entities keep to common priorities in banking and budgetary affairs.

In Mikov's views, only the willingness of GERB to cooperate with the DPS could help Borisov to uphold the promise he made in the town of Kurdzhali in Southern Bulgaria.

Kurdzhali is known to be a DPS stronghold and to have a vast population of Bulgarian Turks.

"GERB do not have as many prepared Muslim cadres," the website Dariknews.bg quoted Mikov as explaining.

Therefore Borisov could have only had "a coalition" in mind, he added. `

GERB's head, also a former Prime Minister (2009-2013), wrote in his Facebook profile to respond to Mikov's claims. Apart from slamming the BSP, DPS and far-right Ataka, the three parties in the previous parliament that the conservatives accuse of having only sought to ensure quorum, he attacked Mikov himself.

"To talk on that subject on a Sunday afternoon is possible only if one is heavily drunk. My advise is that one should not give interviews like that," Borisov said.
