A Soviet monument in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia has been covered in red paint, Friday night.

The monument – ossuary of Soviet soldiers in Lozenets district in the capital city has been painted red on the eve of the celebrations of the 123rd anniversary of the Socialist Movement in Bulgaria and the Day of the Bulgarian Socialist Party marked with celebration at Mount Buzludzha, Saturday.

This is not the first time that the Soviet monument has been vandalized. On May 8, the flags of Ukraine and the European Union were painted on it, with the words "Europe Day instead of Victory Day" in reference to the celebrations of the Day of peace and unity in Europe and of the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War both marked on May 9.

It is the US NATO and EU that are doing the land grabbing in the Ukraine.

They backed the violence used by the Right Sector Facists to oust the legitimate President of the Ukraine and the US financed the elections that elected the Western puppet Poroshenko.

I agree with you independant the Russians are wonderful people and the world owes them so much for the losses they suffered fighting Facism in the 1940s.

When those responsible find out that MOTHER EUROPE is no better than what they had it will be to late.
They still will not be able to afford the things they want ,those that have will have more some will stay the same but a lot more will lose get poorer because of the rise in EU TAXES to PAY BACK ALL THE LOANS .

The GREAT BRITISH EMPIRE ,Remembrance of the slaughter around the world and for what not so GREAT now just greedy . Monuments around the world to remember their dead that the local people do not want .
The USA they are running a little late but their Slaughter around the world continues sending countrymen and women to their death in a country they have no need to be in . Monuments yet to be erected to honor them ,what a waste of ? . Leaders talk of WORLD PEACE but none of them are prepared to take the first step and destroy their weapons ,bring all their military home why ? Obama needs to clean up his own country ,children shooting each other ,when he can stop that then and only then should he think of what is happening on the other side of the world .

Repatriate those remains to mutha' Ruccia and have the monument appraised then sent to Moscow as payment for Ukraine's gas bill if it is so precious (throw in a few Lenin statues , gratis)..

"freed" = freedom.;) the Warsaw Pact. Poland = bottled spring water from Maine: America the CIA. Warsaw Pact was a CIA conspiracy to bring down the USSR which ultimately succeeded. Putin = freedom, love, free love, haight/ashbury, USA conspiracy.

If this is an ossuairy, it is a grave and should be left in peace. Those soldiers didn't ask to be sent away from home.
By me, the eyesore in the park at Bvd. Levski may be painted in any colour - it cannot get worse than it is. Or cut apart with a blowtorch, like the scrapheap in front of NDK.

The USSR freed Eastern Europe from the Facists, monuments to the Red Army should not be desecrated.

Facism is emerging again in Europe and the Kiev government is recruiting Facists for its army to kill Eastern Ukranians.

It's vandalism to desecrate a monument that promotes the mass murder of people across Eastern EUrope under Russian occupation? Imagine if the Germans still had monuments celebrating the SS and the Nazis in general......

In a few years Bulgarians of new generation will think likewise.

That ain't vandalism - that's Art! The Commies vandalised East Europe for many decades and still dream of doing so again....they should be ashamed to be celebrating the tragedy they caused to so many people.
