The 4.5-5.5% tourism growth planned for 2014 is currently implemented, Anelia Genova of Bulgaria's Ministry of Economy told the National Radio (BNR).
According to Genova, despite the heavy rainfalls and the crisis on some markets essential for the country, the tourist data for Bulgaria is quite optimistic.
The Ministry of Economy focuses not only on the number of tourists in Bulgaria, but also on the amounts of cash they spend during their stay, BNR informs.
Meanwhile, Bayko Baykov, chair of the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents has claimed that the current situation regarding the foreign tourists in the country is contradictory. According to him, this is due mainly to the unstable political situation in Ukraine and in Russia, and the depreciation of the ruble. This in turn has had an impact on the number of tourists, Baykov noted in an interview for Bulgarian Dnevnik.
A slight decline is expected as a result of the lower numbers of Bulgarian tourists, which in turn is due to the bad weather, Baykov explained.
