Border crossing points on the Bulgarian-Turkish border have opened polling stations for Turkey’s presidential elections on August 10.

A total of10 polling stations have been opened, including 8 at Kapikule – Kapitan Andreevo, one at Hamzabeyli – Lesovo and one at Derekyoy – Malko Tarnovo, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Voting will continue until 5pm on August 10, when the Election Day in Turkey ends.

The sacks of ballot papers will be transported to Turkey, where they will be counted.

Turkey’s head of state will be directly elected for the first time. Until now, Turkey’s President has been elected by Parliament.

At the presidential elections on August 10, around 3 million Turkish nationals living abroad will be given the chance for the first time to vote in their countries of residence.

In a total of 155 countries, including Bulgaria, voting will take place on the dates set by the Supreme Electoral Council.

A total of 8198 Turkish nationals with voting rights have been registered in Bulgaria. They are to vote on August 1-3 in the first round of the presidential elections and on August 17-19 in the case of a run-off stage.
