Hotels in Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv recorded a 33% higher revenue from tourist accommodation in H1 2014, compared to the same period of 2013, the local administration informed.

The contribution of Bulgarian tourists to the municipality's revenues increased by 24% and of foreign visitors - by 44%, Dnevnik reports.

The number of nights spent in hotels by Bulgarian tourists increased by 7% and by foreigners – by a total of 43%. The statistics also showed that the number of people who stayed in hotels increased by nearly 13%, respectively by 10% for Bulgarians, and by 19% for foreigners.

In May, Plovdiv has managed to climb two places in the ranking of top Bulgarian cities in terms of nights spent and hotel revenues, leaving behind Bansko and Smolyan. It is only surpassed by Sofia and the Black Sea cities of Varna and Nessebar.

The highest numbers of tourists who visited Plovdiv in May are from Turkey, USA, Italy and Germany.
