State of emergency has been declared in Bulgaria's Northeastern Byala municipality over the heavy rains, mayor Anastas Trendafilov said, Wednesday.

There are reports of flooded buildings, the strong winds have knocked down branches and whole trees. There are damages along the beaches and the street pavements, too, Bulgarian Telegraph Agency reports.

The situation in the area of Kara Dere,a nature reserve near Byala, Varna Province is currently the most critical. A total of 8 people have been evacuated from the area, Trendafilov said.

Due to fallen trees, the road between the Black Sea cities of Varna and Burgas was briefly closed for traffic, however currently it has been reopened.

The state of emergency in the municipality is valid until 20 o'clock tonight, but will be extended if the weather deteriorates again.

Earlier Wednesday state of emergency was declared in the Southern Black Sea municipality of Primorsko. Torrential rains led to overflowing of the rivers Dyavolska and Ropotamo which flooded the area.
