Bulgaria's opposition GERB would end its boycott of Parliament if ruling-party lawmakers agree to review the 2014 budget, a message to Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov shows.

The statement, signed by conservative GERB leader and former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, argues his party would accept the agenda of parliamentary sessions scheduled for next week if a point is added to envisage discussions on the money for healthcare and on amendments to the State Budget Act of the Republic of Bulgaria for this year, the website Investor.bg reports.

Borisov's calls come a day before chairs of parliamentary groups are due to discuss the agenda for this week.

They also follow his meeting with Bulgarian Medical Association Chairman Tsvetan Raychinov.

For weeks, Raychinov has argued expenditures set aside in the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) will not be enough to cover the needs of hospital and this will virtually strip them of any funding from September.

Earlier on Monday, President Rosen Plevneliev also advised politicians to consider a budget reviewal, as failing to take such as step will tie the hands of the upcoming interim government to tackle urgent problems.

Bulgaria is heading for early elections on October 5 and is due to have a caretaker government from August 6.

Even though a few more weeks are in sight for Parliament to convene, most sessions have lately failed due to lack of quorum as GERB and far-right Ataka have vowed not to attend.
