Bulgaria: BGN 150 000 Reported Misteriously Missing from Sofia-based Bank Vault Photo by BGNES

A sum of around BGFN 150 000 has disappeared from a bank vault in the Lozenets district of Sofia.

About one month ago, a customer of the bank decided to open his safe deposit box and found that it was empty, with no traces of having been forced open or unlocked, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio. He told the police that he had had EUR 20 000 and BGN 30 000 in the box.

A few days later, two other people complained that they had found their boxes empty, one of them claiming that he had had around EUR 16 000 in it and the other one a sum of around EUR 30 000.

The two waited for a few days before declaring that the money disappeared. Representatives of the Interior Ministry confirmed in an informal conversation that they were investigating the matter.

The police received no tip-off about a robbery or a break-in or any other offence.

Police are also seeking to establish why the people waited for several days before reporting the matter to the competent authorities.

Why do people put 20,000 or 30,000 Euros in a safe deposit box and then are slow to report it as stolen?

The Police should investigate why that money was there and why the delay in reporting it.

#2 - 9 Jul 2014 // 13:49:56 the Banks, don't worry, the BNB will assure you that every Stotinka is stable, secure and SAFE from harm. Just.... NOT in safety deposit boxes in Banks!
Speechless almost, hilarious definately, especially because the victims did not create a scandal. Name of the Bank please, and I would like to know the names of the people who did not immediately report the missing money (obviously not normal behaviour). This whole episode proves why the protesters are justified in demanding Legal Constitutional Reform. Proportional Representation of Voting, followed by independent Judiciary, then BNB....complete Overhaul....then business can begin.... OR we can just continue to live a life where all TRUST is evapourated. Whichever Bank has lost money from safety deposit boxes, I have a RIGHT to KNOW !!!! I will not use their insecure, unreliable services No Gossip....names and facts...and I do NOT CARE if it destabilises the whole world's banking system: in reality this will happen sooner or later with or without Bulgarian Bank Scandals.
The proposed new Laws will only serve Banks, (who are clearly corrupted on a worldwide scale)! The truth is mine and yours to determine....the BNB and Fiscal Law need structural revision from credible people with integrity and Vision. Do not look to London or Zuerich for help on banking regulation: they are the mammalian MASTERS of minnows with a prehistoric tendency towards behaving like dinosaurs with "blinkers". The BNB must finally learn to THINK for itself and the best interests of Bulgarians.... Absolute Transparency and to hell with London and Zuerich, unless you wish to end up as Plankton in the belly of the dying Whale/Wail of Corrupt Banks. Bank secrecy....quaintly prehistoric....totally illogical ....simply Criminal ! Banking needs Vivisection, definately not protection. Stop blaming others and look at the facts, openly for all to see, on the table. Then ask the questions, and formulate the solutions....based on the facts....NAME of the BANK....fact or GOSSIP Novinite????

This is a notice to BG Police!

This happened lately also in Romanian banks several times , make a search !
This was explained by that a previous renter of the safety box has made copies of the key and later ( after a few months or even a year) when the box has been rented out to other clients he come back and opened the box and cleared the content.
