Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met to discuss developments in eastern Ukraine.

Poroshenko thanked his colleague for the support that Germany and the EU are offering, and proposed that the joint economic projects between the two countries for restoring the economy should be launched as soon as possible, Interfax agency reported.

The Ukrainian president also expressed his concern that the ceasefire is being violated by pro-Russian separatist forces.

“Eight incidents were reported last night. One serviceman was killed and seven others were wounded”, he said.

Steinmeier, meanwhile was hopeful that the OSCE observers captured in Donetsk and Luhansk last month will be freed soon. Two teams of observers disappeared on May 26 and May 29, but no groups have yet claimed responsibility for their capture. The OSCE has said it established contact with them on June 19, but they remain in captivity.

Poroshenko and Steinmeier also discussed the potential liberalization of visa regimes for Ukrainian citizens traveling to the EU.
