Ukraine Set to Receive $1.9 Billion Investment Boost from World Bank
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a financial division of the World Bank, intends to invest 1.9 billion USD in projects in Ukraine over the next 18 months
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed that early parliamentary polls be held in the country and that steps be taken toward decentralization, official say.
The recently-elected head of state believes changes in power are still on the society's agenda, ITAR-TASS has reported citing the Ukrainian Presidency's press service.
Amendments should also be made to the Constitution as a means to change Ukraine's administrative structure and make moves to solve the crisis in the east and south of the country, he argued while meeting lawmakers from various political parties in Kiev.
Poroshenko said he considers decentralization to fully fit into his Donbass peace plan, an initiative he has been showing commitment to since well before being elected President on May 25.
The President did not elaborate on his idea for a future territorial division of Ukraine and did not comment on similar proposals issued April by the Kiev Parliament.
As another step in his Donbass strategy he appointed late Monday Irina Gerashchenko to be the President's representative for the peaceful solution of the Donetsk and Luhansk conflict.
Gerashchenko is an MP from UDAR, the party of current Kiev Mayor and former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko.
She is to initiate and take part in consultations with those institutions which could help to wind down tensions.
Heavy fighting between Kiev forces and pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk are meanwhile still under way, with Russian media reporting clashes in the town of Kramatorsk left ten dead.
In other parts of Ukraine risks to the humanitarian situation are reportedly in sight, as UNIAN news agency quotes government officials as saying the city of Donetsk is facing water supplies shortage.
