Bulgaria: Bulgarian Renewable Energy Producers May Sue Watchdog over Tariff Cuts Photo by EPA/BGNES

Renewable energy producers have threatened to sue Bulgaria's energy watchdog due to its intentions to impose a dramatic reduction in preferential tariffs.

The decrease in the preferential tariff for wind farms is by 20-22% and for photovoltaic plants by over 50%, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

Meglena Rusinova from the Wind Energy Manufacturers Association described in detail the procedure which the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) was allegedly violating and which was expected to cause the court authorities to revoke the new tariffs.

"The tariffs are calculated on the basis of economically substantiated costs – return on capital. The amount of the running costs includes a projected inflation rate for the entire period of mandatory purchase of electricity," Rusinova declared in an interview late on Monday.

Renewable energy producers opposed the proposals of DKEVR and accused it of breaching the administrative and procedural rules in the preparation of the report on the tariffs.

Industry representatives threatened to sue DKEVR over its plans to impose a dramatic decrease in their preferential tariffs.

They insisted that a ruling of the energy watchdog on renewable electricity preferential tariffs did not reach the targets stipulated in the Renewable Energy Sources Act, thereby encouraging the production of electricity from conventional sources instead of providing incentives for green energy producers.

Philippe: Your comments from yesterday are 100% correct. Indeed I know one of the culprits responsible for dirtying the "waters", really rather well, ( he has diversified business interests spread nationwide). He was once the "deputat" for the region where I live and is infamous for his arrogance, amongst many other behavioural problems. BNT once interviewed him to ask "why, in all his time as Deputat, he had never spoken ONE word in Parliament", to which he replied that there were many other people more intelligent and qualified to speak than him....on every subject. Which all goes to substantiate my belief that our Politicians are just there to Network for self interest, and are completely void of any vision, knowledge or awareness of the necessity to embrace change and heed the demands for Absolute Transparency in Government. Watch the Dog Watchdog !!!! Let us hope that others see the potential political gains in transparency, (not to mention financial). Time to start putting these murky people and politicians in their place !!!!

Several of these Photo-voltaic Energy Producers are murky people who managed to sign contracts with murky politicians for guaranteed buying at 840 BGN/MWh, while nuclear energy and int'l market prices for electricity cost less than 100 BGN/MWh. An organized holdup to the Bulgarian consumer. The bribes must have been enormous. Can you imagine: criminal money laundered with official taxpayer money!

These murky photo-voltaic energy producers should realize that sooner or later their crime will be halted by the BG citizens. In fact, those who put signatures from both sides should be prosecuted and the money recovered.

Renewable Energy Producers should establish an independent control body called "WATCH THE DOG" to monitor, analyse and advertise, ALL the disinformation released by the completely Uneducated and Untrained WATCHDOG!
Raise the Public awareness. It will make all Legal Actions far easier, and Sue, Sue, Sue.

Global Warming exists everywhere else, only not in Bulgaria???? Did anybody at the DKEVR actually go to school ???? Mathematics is a prerequisite to being employed in such an agency and yet nobody seems capable of calculating simple multiplication, division and subtraction. I feel it is essential to add that for such a responsibility one should also be able to at least READ and understand the E.U. directives for reduction in Greenhouse Gasses (to be achieved by 2030).
This proves that we do NOT have ONE serious politician with a vision for the future. So what the hell, let us become like all other dinosaur Western societies; GAS ourselves to oblivion and BURN UP the whole PLANET. In the information age, Ignorance is a CHOICE, and I feel justified in calling on the Head of the DKEVR to resign IMMEDIATELY. There will be NO return on capital when the planet becomes inhabitable for Humans! CAPITAL choices for idiots who cannot read and count, and do not care for their children and self respect. 70 Billion pounds and rising just to decommission Sellafield: no worries, the BG politicians in their genius have budgeted every lev, long into the future, of their own personal bank accounts.... and to hell with the citizens they are supposed to serve !!!!
