The Bulgarian Black Sea town of Chernomorets is holding a local referendum on changing its name.
The question on the ballot papers is "Would you like the town of Chernomorets to restore its old name of Sveti Nikola?".
Polling stations opened at 6 am on Sunday and are to close at 7 pm, according to reports of Sega daily.
In order for the referendum to be valid, at least 1191 voters must go to the polls.
The name change must be approved by at least 50% of the voters.
The Black Sea resort, which is part of the Sozopol Municipality, was known as Sveti Nikola (Saint Nicholas) until 1951.
The Sveti Nikola church is one of the main sights in the town and the locals honor Saint Nicholas as their patron saint.
