Russian state-owned concern Gazprom maintains the South Stream gas pipeline project is being carried out on schedule, company officials were quoted as saying.
A letter from Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller shows Russia was not informed by Bulgaria of any changes in the project, including of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski's announcement that the project is to be frozen, private channel NOVA TV reports.
His words come in a week of uncertainty over whether South Stream has actually been suspended until it complies with EU norms.
Bulgaria was asked to freeze it by the EU Commission after the latter started an infringement procedure against Bulgaria, citing a number of issues contravening European legislation.
Thursday Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov however argued Prime Minister Oresharski did not have the capacity to order suspension.
