Nationalist Leader Joins Calls for Resignation of Bulgaria PM
Volen Siderov, leader of nationalist party Ataka, has joined the calls for the resignation of Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
"He was given the chance to rule for too long. He failed to accomplish basic things which were expected of him and this is why he has to go immediately. Several days ago, he also did something particularly disgraceful - he stooped to three US Senators and stopped the South Stream project. He stopped the Belene nuclear power plant. This anti-colonial policy has to stop," he added in a Wednesday interview, as cited by Sega daily.
Siderov made clear that Ataka would back the no-confidence motion against the government as long as center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), the initiator of the measure, had serious intentions of ousting Oresharski.
The leader of Ataka backed the proposal of Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) for holding early elections in July.
Siderov said that the party proposed the early elections to take place on July 20 as it was the earliest possible date.
He was positive that Ataka had no worries about failing to make it into the next Parliament, adding that the past European Parliament elections had been the most manipulated elections ever.
He went on to insist that the prosecuting authority had to press charges against Nikolay Barekov, leader of the Bulgaria without Censorship party, in relation to the elections.
Bulgaria's Parliament is to discuss Wednesday the fifth no-confidence vote against the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
The fifth no-confidence motion is based on the failed financial policy of the Cabinet.
