Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller expects that the contract between Gazprom and China's CNPC could affect the gas prices for Europe, reports the Russian-language version of ITAR-TASS.

“We suppose that the contract will affect the gas prices for the European market,” Miller said at the  St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

According to him, the signing of the breakthrough contract between Gazprom and CNPC signals the start of the competition between Europe and Asia for Russian gas.

On Wednesday, Gazprom signed a USD 400 B 30-year contract with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), under which the company will supply 38 B cubic meters of gas to China per year.

“We don't have such a contract with another company,” Miller said. He refused to divulge the price of the gas, but said the contract included preferential taxes and duties.
