Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov climbed the third highest peak in the world – Kangchenjunga, reported Bulgarian-language media.

According to Dnevnik.bg, Petrov reached the summit, which is 8598 meters high, in the afternoon of May 20 and became the first Bulgarian to climb it.

“It was a hard and long solo climb,” Petrov told Dnevnik.bg. “I returned to the camp two hours ago and now I can just relax. It was tense. But now I am just very happy.”

This was his second attempt to reach it, after several days earlier he got confused along the route and had to return to the base camp, because of the bad weather.

Kangchenjunga is the highest peak in India and the easternmost of the peaks higher than 8000 m. It is called Five Treasures of Snow after its five high peaks, and has always been worshipped by the people of Darjeeling and Sikkim.
