Four people have joined the administration of Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov with no competition conducted to select them, an inquiry has revealed.

According to the information provided under the Access to Public Information Act, a huge administration corpus of 247 people is at disposal at top levels of the Prosecuting Authority, which has just 133 prosecutors, the news agency Mediapool reports.

The data above means every prosecutor at the Supreme Cassation and Administrative Prosecutor's offices is supposed to have a personal staff of nearly two.

Mediapool's inquiry follows public remarks made by Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov over what he described as excessively strengthened personnel.

Tsatsarov, who has held the office for nearly 17 months, has also repeatedly called for massive cuts within the administration of the Prosecuting Authority.

In his words, no tolerance would be shown to appointments made without any competition.

Citing the inquiry, however, Mediapool argues that only two of the judicial staff an one prosecutor's aide had been part of the administration of the Chief Prosecutor's office prior to Tsatsarov's term.
