A resident of Bulgaria's town of Shumen is suing the traffic police for causing him stress and ill health, reports Bulgaria's public broadcaster BNT.
In 2012 Minko Baev received a speeding fine of BGN 500 for allegedly driving with 131 km/h on a road where the limit was 60 km/h.
Baev contested the fine in court and won the case, as experts proved that his 30-year-old truck cannot go at more than 95 km/h.
Baev said that in the year and a half, while waiting for the court decision, he was extremely stressed, he got hypertension and his teeth fell off, so he decided to sue the traffic police for a compensation of BGN 2600.
At first instance the court overruled his claim, but Baev said he is determined and took the case to the Supreme Administrative Court.
“I am feeding my family with this truck, so I cannot afford to break the traffic rules and lose my driver's license,” Baev told BNT. “You could see on the police tape that the truck barely climbs the hill,” Baev told BNT.
