Clashes between pro-Russian federalists and Ukrainian troops have reportedly led to a number of casualties in the eastern city of Slaviansk on Monday.

Ukraine's acting Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote in a statement that pro-Russian forces were using large-calibre weapons and there were casualties on both sides, The Guardian revealed. According to ITAR-TASS, four Ukrainian service men have been killed.

A spokesman for the pro-Russian insurgents clarified that a number of people, including a 20-year-old woman had died.

Slaviansk, in the north of Donetsk region, has been the center of battles between government forces and pro-Russian militia over the past weeks. The interim leadership in Kiev has conducted several "anti-terrorist operations" in which dozens of people were killed.

The West accuses Russia of directly supplying and supporting the armed men fighting against the government forces.

Optimistic, like many others, I merely see and hear what PEOPLE of the South East want. It's not difficult, if wish be. As to the "wise remarks" of some forumers, they are just nonsensical. How to take them seriously? Just look at one of the fresh "pearls":
"any country has to protect its integrity against violent actions"---!!! And who can argue? But the author "forgot" to extend this revelation on (a) the really violent actions of "protesters" (White Sector' activists) in Maidan, (b) on the effected by them Coup d'Etat, (c) on the open interference and support of "protesters" by the West (USA, EU, NATO)....And now, after ILLEGAL capturing the power and launching the war against OWN people, this scum is transformed - with a wave of the foreign magiciens' wand - into the "legitimate authorities" who "have to protect integrity"!? But PEOPLE have the right NOT to accept this shameful farce, this imposed by force "new order", these bloody "new rulers", these cannibals, who, right now, "protect integrity" by exterminating people. People HAVE the right on their SAY, cannibals have no. Cannibals must be stopped.

They are busy printing the referendum ballot papers, not long now for some more democratic elections in the Ukraine.

Scotland is holiding a self determination referendum soon, Ukranian regions should have the same rights as the region of the UK called Scotland.

Well wrote Warfou, a fair and reasonable assessment of the problem. Comments from Optimistic and Sa-sha show that it's unlikely and the pro Russians are happy to let innocent people die to achieve their objectives. How obnoxious they are!

It is obvious that there are people in eastern UA who want secession and, some among them, also unification with RU. However, any country has to protect its integrity against violent actions. There could be a referendum there like the one in Scotland, for example, but it must be prepared under calm circumstances, without any political and economic pressure from abroad, no presence of armed men, and under international control. As long as these preconditions are not met, any referendum and following secession will be a fake and no one will in the civilised world will recognise it. Crucial point are the elections on 25th of May when the Ukrainians themselves will choose a president they want and there will be no more doubts about its legality. But the Russian authorities do not want to accept it and will postpone these elections as they only can. So the Russia's entire talk about legality compromises itself.

"Let's be honest: people of those regions [South-Eastern Ukraine] do support the separatists-terrorists. It significantly complicates the anti-terrorist operation" /Alexander Turchinov, self-proclaimed "President of Ukraine"/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any more doubt? It's the WAR. War against people, the ordinary people, who do not accept the illegal junta... "Separatists", "terrorists", "pro-Russians", etc? And what about their right not to obey the ILLEGAL junta, to live their own life, to make their own choice? To KILL them ALL for it? How nice. True democracy in action.
Weapons from Russia? It's high time, but where is it? In the sick brain of some idiots?
The May, 25, FARCICAL elections? Who needs them? Junta and their overseas masters? But what does this "public" have in common with the PEOPLE of the South-Eastern Ukraine and their needs?
There is the ONLY WAY to "end this nonsense": to stop bloodshed, to stop junta. Immediately.

Russia will do whatever possible to torpedo the Ukrainian presidential elections on 25th May while avoiding heavy sanctions for as long as possible. This is why they recently boosted their support for the separatists and speak again about fake "referendums". The situation will get only worse with a culmination point somewhere around the said date. They are already delivering weapons there and the results are significant losses of the UA army. The scenario is the same as in Chechnya, Georgia and the Crimea, each time only slightly modified to adjust to the situation.

The sooner the pro Russians are put down and this nonsense ended, the better. It's just as true to say people are dying because of the stupid believe that they can carve up a country as it suits them.

Because of the murder of more than 40 people in Odessa by Right Sector Facists people in the East know they are fighting for their lives.

Reading Western media this morning the murders in Odessa has made Eastern Ukranians more determined to protect themselves and to hold their self determination referendums.

Latest news is the centre of Slaviansk is peaceful the forces of the illegal facist Kiev government are not there.
