Bulgaria: Large Bulgarian Companies Buy Electricity from Abroad

An increasing number of large Bulgarian companies buy electricity from abroad, said the chairperson of the Institute for Energy Management Ivanka Dilovska at an energy forum.

According to her the trend started in the past several months and will most likely increase until the full capacity of imports is reached.

In Dilovska's words the buyers are large consumers who prefer to buy cheaper electricity from Hungary or Romania, but they do not wish this to become public knowledge.

Currently Bulgaria's National Electricity Company (NEK) sells electricity for BGN 100 per megawatt hour, while abroad there are producers offer prices of between BGN 70-90.
