Bulgaria: Ex-FM Solomon Passy: Bulgaria Is Only a Trojan Pawn of Russia

In the EU there are Trojan queens and Trojan rooks of Russia, but Bulgaria is at most a Trojan pawn, said former Bulgarian foreign minister Solomon Passy.

Passy was invited to the national TV channel bTV morning talkshow to comment on a recent publication in Reuters, which said Bulgaria was Russia's Trojan horse in the EU.

He pointed out that practically all EU member states were dependent on Kremlin's will to a certain degree.

In his interview Passy said that the West made a strategic error by not inviting Georgia to NATO. The only smart moves in the current situation were tactical cooperation with Belarus and strategic cooperation with China in order to draw the most dividends out the current isolation of Rusia.

In Passy's opinion, currently the matter of Ukraine's membership in NATO was not pressing, because “we don't know if it is a state” - the talk of federalization is a prelude to the splitting of the country, similar to that of Berlin.

According to Passy, Vladimir Putin's interests were in the fullest possible restoration of the Soviet area, but could also look at Alaska and the North Pole.

“We realized that the Cold War might not be over yet and has the potential to become hot,” Passy said.
At the same time Passy was firm that against the background of the tensions in Ukraine, there are specific threats to Bulgaria and gave an example with a recent publication in the Putin regime mouthpiece Pravda about the long standing dream of many Bulgarians to be citizens of the 16-th USSR republic.

According to Passy, this is just one of the many signs of danger, along with the official invitation to join the Eurasian Union, the comments of Russian ambassadors how Bulgaria and Romania must be “kicked hard” by Russia and Putin's pledge to protect the interests of his compatriots, no matter where they live. In Passy's opinion, anyone who is somewhat familiar with the KGB propaganda knows, that such comments are very dangerous.

“Russian rubles are like the cheese in the trap,” Passy said. In his opinion it was necessary that the irrational argument between russophiles and russphobes” be stopped, especially (nationalists) “Ataka's screams” and Georgi Parvanov, whom Passy defined as “Moscow's fifth column”.
