Consumer prices in Bulgaria continue to drop in March, but at a slower rate than in February, said the National Statistics Institute (NSI). 

The data shows that this is an ongoing trend since August 2013. 

The consumer price index for March 2014 has dropped by 0.2%. The deflation since the beginning of the year is 0.8%. The deflation for March year-on-year is 2.3%. 

In February 2014 the deflation was 0.4% and year-on-year – 2.6%. 

In March, compared to the preceding month, the prices of food and soft drinks decreased by 0.3%, of clothes and shoes – by 0.7%, of transport – by 0.6%, of hotels and restaurants – by 0.1% and of entertainment and cultural events – by 1.2%. The prices of car fuel also dropped. 

Utility and health bills remained at the same levels as in February, while prices of alcohol and cigarettes, furniture, domestic appliances, communications and education increased by an average of 0.1% each.
