Crimean Parliament adopted the new constitution of the republic at an extraordinary session in the Crimean capital city, Friday.
All 88 deputies present in the auditorium voted in favor of the constitution, Interfax reports. In total, there are 100 deputies in the State Council of the Crimea.
As of 12 April, the Constitution of the Republic of Crimea, unanimously adopted by the State Council on 11 April, came into force, Itarr-Tass reports.
The Crimean constitution offers broad opportunities to develop the peninsula, Crimean Prime Minister SergeyAksyonov said on Friday, cited by Itar-Tass.
"The Constitution, which expands opportunities for the public to participate in the government, will contribute to developing civil society in Crimea," Aksyonov claimed.
According to him, the new Constitution gives broad opportunities to the Crimean bodies of state power to adopt administrative and legal acts designed to step up the peninsula's social and economic progress and develop education, public health and culture.
"Leading Crimean and Russian experts on constitutional construction, representatives of the peninsula's national and cultural societies, Russian State Duma deputies and members of the Federation Council, as well as representatives of Russian regions and territories, took an active part in drafting and discussing the Constitution's basic provisions," Aksyonov concluded.
