Bulgaria: Anders Fogh Rasmussen Arrives in Sofia NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen. File photo.

NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrives on a two-day visit in Sofia on Thursday afternoon.

On Friday he will receive the Stara Planina Order by Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and will have a private meeting with him, said the President's press office.

Rasmussen will also have meetings with Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, with Defense Minister Angel Naydenov and Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin.

According to government sources, Rasmussen's visit is surprising as only several days ago the country was visited by one of Rasmussen's deputies – the assistant secretary general for political affairs and security policy Terry Stamatopoulos.

According to reports in Bulgarian-language media, Rasmussen will be welcomed by an anti-NATO rally in front of the Military Club in downtown Sofia on Thursday afternoon. The organisers say the protest will be against Bulgaria's stance on the situation in Ukraine, which, according to them was against the country's best interests.

To warfou:"The issue is that the US are already in XXII second century, and you are mentally, economically and politically still in the XIX"---Sir, such "revelation" proves that Your fingers works separately from Your brain, if
any.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About avionics: ;-) unlike You, I'm not expert in Russian planes' avionics, but Russian experts don't share Your opinion. Can't You support Your point by other Western experts' evaluations? And, again, not words, but the real combat is the highest judge.
Another? Lie?---do relax, the skill of USA/UK/France pilotes were much higher than that of Yougoslavia/Irak./Libya.

To Sasha: as said - SU-35 has good manoeverability and bad avionics. In terms of modern combat it is a crap. I believe this will not get tested in a real combat but if yes, you will admit. Don't tell me about pilots' quality, it is another lie. The Saudi pilots shot many MIGs in the first Gulf war and they were not better trained than the Iraquis. Please also do not compare what Russia has to the US equipment, as it is naive. Speaking a language you may understand please tell me, where is Russian internet, Google, Apple, IBM or even McDonald's or Coca Cola? The issue is that the US are already in XXII second century, and you are mentally, economically and politically still in the XIX. The spectacle Russia is showing the world puts it in line with North Korea, Venesuela etc.

Anglais the facist protestors who took over in Kiev attacked police once with a bull dozer and captured police on another occasion.

One of their new government members responsible for press freedom beat up a tv manager because the facist didn't like a tv programme that was produced.

These people are not peaceful.

What is important is the West is not providing financial assistance to the Ukraine so all their talk is empty promises.

Russia voted to admit the Crimea into the Russian Federation after the democratic referendum in the Crimea so at least the Crimean people are safe and the Ukrainian people can see that Russia delivers on its promises and the West doesn't.

the alleged far right fascists took over by force in kiev after months upon months of peaceful protests being ignored by the KGB puppet president.

these dirty KGB sponsored thugs in Eastern Ukraine have done nothing peaceful other than line up and accept putkas cash to cause disruptions and give putka an excuse to invade.

The occupiers of Government buildings in Eastern Ukraine are still there. Their main agenda is referendums to allow the people in their region determine their destiny.

The Ukraine government is threatening violence against them.

This could be a flashpoint for civil war. Let them have their referendums, peace and self determination.

Talk, look for democratic solutions, keep the warplanes on the ground, the ships in the ports and the soldiers in the barracks.

Let the people in the regions decide their own destiny.

"SU 29 is a training plane"-- intimate knowledge! ;-)...but I wrote "analogues".
SU-35 is "obsolete"? Russia cooks its goose...;-): http://www.defenceiq.com/air-forces-and-military-aircraft/articles/sukhoi-su-35-wows-paris-air-show-crowds-russian-fi/
"Russians are late by 30 years compared to the US in this matter /avionics/"---really? The source of the info?
" MIGs 29 were engaged by the F-16, F-18 and F-15 in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Libia"---;-) The author stubbornly "doesn't see" the key world: analogues. Not the MIGs29 of Yougoslavia/Irak (Libya didn't have MIG29), but SU27
are the analogues of F-15C, which "engaged" the above MIGs, without mentioning the pilots' skill.
Finally: only REAL Russia-USA fight can show who is better. I'm not sure about USA, but Russia won't start it.

Phantoms were invented in early 60s and went out of service in the 90's so I can imagine the newest Russian planes can beat them. What regards the rest - SU 29 is a piston engined training plane. SU-27, 35 are obsolete although they posses good maneuverability. Though what decides in a modern combat is the on-deck electronics (avionics). Russians are late by 30 years compared to the US in this matter. And the last: the MIGs 29 were engaged by the F-16, F-18 and F-15 in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Libia. They were shot down at ease, often before they could ever see their opponents on radars. The German Luftwaffe has inherited 24 MIGs 29 from East German army. They tested it and... sold to Poland.

;-)...can that "author" be serious though sometimes? (1) The avionics and engines of MIG29, MIG35, SU27, SU29, are, at least, not worse than those of the best world analogues, including Fantoms. And there is also SU35s, btw ;-)
(2) "no single case of MIG 29 shooting down an F-16"---and what of bad in it? Or somebody is eager for the real war between Russia and USA?

#5
Warfou - 11 Apr 2014 // 12:27:55

BG and RO are negotiating acquisiton of the American F-16. Russia will be able to keep it "MIG" and alike rubbish for itself. There was no single case of MIG 29 shooting down an F-16 because of Russian ancient avionics and ineffective engines.

Rubbish NATO talk, Director general of NATO make yourself useful bring some truckloads of MIG 29 parts, oops you can't do this because of sanctions with Russia.

So you are a waste of time.

Optimistic, enough of this "calm and dialoge" - now is the time for Bulgaria to seize the day and annex Germany together with the help of our Russian brothers and liberate all of those oppressed people who are living under the yoke of Western fascists.

NATO must be worried about Bulgaria not following the NATO line.

Germany never succeeded in getting Bulgaria to fight against Russia, instead Bulgarians fought alongside Russia all the way to Berlin.

There is too much military build up.

Given Bulgarias historic links with Russia and its current links with NATO we should be a force for calm and dialoge and peaceful solutions that will be good for the Uranian people and not persue the objectives of the competing power blocks.
