Crowds Take to the Streets of Florence

The crowds were good-natured, but security was massive in Florence as a four-day anti-war and anti-globalization summit began. Tens of thousands of people from all over the world are converging on the Italian city. So far the event has been trouble free, with singing and dancing in Florence's historical Piazza Santa Croce. However, six thousand officers are on duty keeping a constant watch on the protestors. But the police themselves are under intense scrutiny over the way they handle the event. They were heavily criticized over the G8 summit in Genoa last year.
