Deputy Chief Prosecutor Asya Petrova has informed that the prosecuting authority is not seeking a reinvestigation of a high-profile organized crime case codenamed 'The Killers.'

In a Sunday interview for Nova TV, Petrova explained that the prosecuting authority had lodged a protest against the acquittals stipulated in the ruling of the Varna Appellate Court.

She said that the prosecutors were not seeking reinvestigation but a retrial by the Varna Appellate Court.

Petrova made clear that the protest involved the acquittal of Petar Stoyanov and Vasil Kostov on charges of murdering Borislav Georgiev.

In December 2012, the Shumen District Court sentenced the three defendants in the case, Stoyanov, Kostov and Georgi Valev, to life without parole.

The three were among a number of people arrested in the summer of 2010 during a special police operation dubbed "The Killers" by then-Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov. The suspects were charged with three contract murders, two beatings, two arsons and one explosion.

The operation was carried out by the police, the State Agency for Ntaional Security (DANS), and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office in connection with the murder of the controversial Samokov football club president Yuriy Galev.

However, the guilty verdict was cancelled by the Varna Appellate Court.

Petrova explained Sunday that the prosecuting authority was seeking life without parole for the three defendants.
