North Korea fired 30 short-range missiles on Saturday.

According to the General staff of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's army, the missiles flew about 30 km before falling into the Sea of Japan near the Korean Peninsula, ITAR-TASS has reported.

On March 16, North Korea fired 25 ballistic missiles, repeating similar moves from earlier this month. Pyongyang has made these steps amid preparation for US-South Korean drills that usually take place from end-February to mid-April near the Korean Peninsula.

North Korean officials have repeatedly described the military maneuvers as "provocations".

The two Koreas are still technically at war, after in 1953 military actions between the two countries ended in a truce and not with a peace agreement.

Tensions occasionally heighten on the peninsula, as the countries put on each other the blame for fire exchanges or other incidents near their common border.
