Explosions in Spain Raise Suspicions of Terrorism

World | November 5, 2002, Tuesday // 00:00

Two people were killed and two others, including a child, injured in twin explosions in the north west of Spain. The cause of the blasts is not yet known, but a terrorist link is thought unlikely. Drug cartels are known to operate in the Galicia region. The two who died are believed to have been a married couple, who were leaving their house near the Atlantic port of Vigo. In the other explosion, which happened nearby, a man and his son were injured as they were leaving their home. It is thought the explosives were hidden in rubbish bags.
