Bulgaria: Macedonia MPs Dissolve Parliament

Lawmakers in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Macedonia) voted on Wednesday to dissolve Parliament.

The move will pave the way for snap parliamentary elections, which were previously due next year, as BalkanInsight has reported.

Macedonia's ruling coalition started splintering after it failed to agree on a presidential candidate.

The vote for president is scheduled for April, and local media claim that a parliamentary poll could coincide with its first round on April 13.

The speaker of parliament must now set a date for an early poll, which local media said would likely coincide with the second round of a presidential election on April 13.

This is the third time that Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who has been in office since 2006, has challenged the opposition in an early general election.
