America goes to the polls later on Tuesday which will decide the balance of both houses of the Congress and send a message to George W Bush, half-way through his presidency. With the race between Republicans and Democrats too close to call, Mr Bush, who toured our key states on the final day of campaigning, issued a last-minute appeal to the voters to cast their ballots, amid fears that apathy may be the real victor. The nationwide vote will decide all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, along with 34 seats in the 100-member Senate; 36 of the 50 state governorships are also up for election. The Republicans will try to defend their majority of six in the House of Representatives.
