Russia has recalled its ambassador to Ukraine, as it fails to recognize the parliament's decision to remove President Viktor Yanukovych.

Ambassador Mikhail Zurabov will travel back to Moscow for "consultations", the BBC reports.

It is also now in question whether Russia will go forth with the financial assistance deal to Ukraine, which was signed by the presidents Vladimir Putin and Viktor Yanukovych in December.

On Saturday, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) voted the resignation of Yanukovych, although he had not submitted it himself. Opposition leader Oleksandr Turchynov was named interim Parliament Speaker and President.
