Bulgaria's Foreign Minister has underscored the contribution of the South-East European Cooperation Process for boosting security, stability and prosperity in the region.
Kristian Vigenin spoke Tuesday at an informal meeting of the SEECP foreign ministers taking place in Bucharest, according to the press office of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry.
Vigenin pointed out that the SEECP had to cope with the new challenges which kept coming up in order to guarantee the future development of the regional cooperation between the SEECP countries.
"Bulgaria firmly believes that the countries in the region have the potential to boost the efficiency of the SEECP by focusing on project-oriented cooperation. At the same time, it is important to focus on spheres where we can achieve real progress," Vigenin declared.
He suggested that the SEECP countries could enhance cooperation in the spheres of justice and home affairs, economy, tourism, transport and energy infrastructure, adding that they were essential for the economic recovery of southeast Europe.
Bulgaria's Foreign Minister emphasized the need to boost cooperation between SEECP and other international and regional organizations and institutions, most notably with the European Union.
He also drew attention to the need to create synergy between the SEECP and other formats of regional cooperation like the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).
"This will contribute to the economic prosperity and the political stability of southeast Europe and will increase the visibility of the activity of SEECP," Vigenin noted.
Bulgaria's Foreign Minister argued that it was very important to build a stronger partnership between the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the SEECP, because mobilizing EU funding and using the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) would have a positive impact on the entire region.
He also called for support for the proposal of Bulgaria's Parliament for the conversion of the Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Cooperation in South Eastern Europe, headquartered in Sofia, into a Standing Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly, which was to be established during the Romanian presidency of SEECP in the period May 9-11, 2014.
