It would be wrong for the Bulgaria's former ruling GERB party to depose Tsvetan Tsvetanov from his vice-chairmanship, said party leader and ex-PM Boyko Borisov.

Borisov spoke ahead of the GERB congress Sunday, after an exchange of open letters suggested that during his time as Vice-PM and Interior Minister Tsvetanov has held close ties with controversial media mogul and Movement for Rights and Freedoms MP Delyan Peevski.

"I have distanced myself from Tsvetanov. But it would be a grave error if he is removed from the position of vice-chair," commented the former PM for the Presa daily.

"Half of the party will see this as a traitorship," explained Borisov.

In the interview, he also stated that the unexpected resignation of front bench MP and former Vice-FinMin Vladislav Goranov from his MP seat Friday is unrelated to the Tsvetanov affair and the upcoming GERB congress.

According to Borisov, Goranov made a personal choice for carreer development in business and academia rather than politics.

The GERB leader stated that the move was coordinated with him and that that the party will be glad to use Goranov's services as an expert in the future.
