Bulgaria's Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviyski failed to win medals in the pairs competition final ranking at Skate Canada tournament. In the original dance competition the Bulgarian pair were third. Canadian silver medallists Dubreuil and Lauzon's Dubreuil and Ukrainians Elena Grushina and Ruslan Gonchorov stayed ahead of them. The Bulgarians went baroque, and during the end-to-end footwork sequence, they skated with a risky swooping, back-and-forth mirror image. With Sunday's free dance however they were left behind by Russian pair Svetlana Kulikova and Arseni Markov. Ukraine's Elena Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov were crowned ice dancing champions at the Skate Canada International competition Sunday. The competition was the second of six on the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix program leading up to the world championships. The next will be held in Germany next week. For the second time at a major ISU event, the 10 marks that flashed across the scoreboard for each competitor were not attributed to a particular judge.
