The weather in Bulgaria's high mountains is not appropriate for hiking, announced the Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service Sunday morning.

Ridges and peaks are engulfed in clouds, with unpleasant winds in some locations adding to the windchill.

Temperatures for the day are not low for the season though, ranging from -8 to 2 degrees Celsius.

Hikers are advised to take heed of winter conditions and to only move along marked trails.

The Mountain Rescue and the Bulgarian Extreeme and Freestyle Ski Association recently warned of increased avalanche danger, given the character of snowfall this season.
