European Commission Grants Greece 1 Billion Euros for Renewable Energy Projects
With the aim to bolster renewable energy infrastructure, the European Commission has greenlit funding of 1 billion euros for two key projects in Greece
Bulgaria's Constitutional Court will discuss on Thursday the presidential veto on the 20% tax on revenues of solar and wind power stations.
Earlier this month, President Rosen Plevneliev approached the court on the grounds that the tax creates unequal conditions for electricity producers. Plevneliev emphasized that he does not support the energy lobby, but tries to protect the interests of the small producers.
Energy Minister Dragomir Stoinev, however, accused Plevneliev of working against the balancing of the energy system. Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski said that if the Constitutional Court rejects the tax, the government will find a new way to tax the renewable energy producers.
The tax was proposed by Volen Siderov, leader of the nationalist party Ataka, as an amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act during the second-reading vote on Budget 2014 by the parliamentary committee on budget and finance.
