A 3.7 point magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake has been registered near the southern Bulgarian town of Perushtitsa in the Plovdiv region.

The Geophysical Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) reports the jolt had been registered at around 7:04 am Wednesday morning.

The epicenter was 132 km southeast of the capital Sofia and 27 km southwest of the second largest city of Plovdiv. It had a depth of 10 km.

No injuries or material damage have been reported.

The tremor has not been felt by locals and there is no panic in Perushtitsa, according to the town's deputy mayor, cited by Nova TV.

The quake was preceded by 5 weaker ones – between 2.0 and 2.3 magnitude.

An aftershock was also registered after it with a 2.0 magnitude.
