The Bulgarian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Stefan Tafrov, was elected Vice-President of the Bureau of UNICEF's Executive Board for 2014 by the Eastern European regional group.

The election occurred at the first meeting of the Council on 8 January in New York.

In accordance with the rotation principle, the African Group takes over the Presidency of the Bureau of UNICEF's Executive Board this year.

For President of the Bureau was elected the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN, Ambassador Macharia Kamau.

The other Vice-Presidents for 2014 are Ambassador Ib Petersen, the Permanent Representative of Denmark (ZERG), Ambassador Denis Regis, Permanent Representative of Haiti (GRULAK) and Ahmad Naseem Warraieh, Minister Plenipotentiary in PR Pakistan (Asia- Pacific group).

During the meeting a report was made on the work of the Executive Board of the organization for the last year. UNICEF's Executive Director Anthony Lake expressed satisfaction with his productive work , noting the adoption of the Strategic Plan 2014-2017 and the integrated budget.

He added that 2014 will be eventful and full of new challenges under the protection of the rights of children in different parts of the world and their commitment and support in this regard.

UNICEF's Executive Board first regular session for 2014 will be held on 4-7 February 2014 in New York.
