Bulgaria Set to Receive Millions in Refugee Crisis Aid
In 2014, Bulgaria will receive over EUR 10.5 M in emergency aid for refugees, says Deputy Interior Minister Vasil Marinov.
Marinov has spoken in an interview with the daily newspaper Pressa (Press).
"The original schedule for 2014-2020 was for the Fund "Asylum and Refugees" to be provided EUR 10 M. From them, next year we were to receive about EUR 700 thousand. Due to the active communication of the government, however, just in 2014 we will receive more than EUR 10.5 M for crisis management" the Deputy Interior Minister announces.
He explained that this includes EUR 8.6 M emergency aid under European programs and USD 3.5 M dollars from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Amnesty International has welcomed the position of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) calling on European Union (EU) member states to halt transfers of asylum-seekers back to Bulgaria until April 2014.
According to government statistics 11 606 entered the country in 2013, Amnesty said.
As a result, hundreds of people in need of protection have ended up living for months in appalling conditions and without timely and unimpeded access to asylum procedure.
The first statistic for 2014 of the State Agency for Refugees (DAB) shows that there are 9,500 refugees currently residing in Bulgaria.
Around half of those seeking asylum in Bulgaria come from Syria, and most of them are accommodated in the temporary shelters, reported Standartnews.
The reception centers in the capital Sofia as well as the campus in Harmanli remain the most densely populated.
In December, DAB made a commitment to speed up the process of granting refugee status and to quickly deport those who are refused such.

@FREE MONEY They are not stupid, in-fact they are very crafty. They (those giving out funds) know the Bulgarian politicians are greedy Mafia criminals, and they know none of the money will spent on its purpose, but spent on the personal desires of the politicians, most of which will involve the money going back to Western Europe i.e. buying Western European cars, expensive property in the West etc. And the most important part the country will need more money when the need for the same purpose arises, because it has not used the money it has currently received in full, hence more aid, i.e. loans will be given to Bulgaria. All in all this increases the country's debt, affirming the EU's control over the country, meaning if the country doesn't do as the EU says, they can just pull a Greece debt crisis on it, call the general population lazy, living off the backs of others and force it to sell even more of its assets. That's why you hardly here any criticism from the EU media over the government's corruption at least not on the same scale as you would for Ukraine, Belarus, and the likes, because it serves their interests hence they don't care.
Talk about giving the fox the keys to the chicken yard!
Hmm, that's approximately BGN 20 Million+ coming in. I'll bet there must be afew "experts" already gleefully and silently planning how to skim abit of cream. Or maybe money for jam on top of their bread and butter.
Look, Matt, let me share my-very personal-observation: it was in Benin, when that State received ~US$100mln
for the rural projects (a hell of money for Benin) and-do read attentively, Matt-50% of that amount was transferred (by three tranсhes) to the accounts in: Mauritius, Seychelles and UAE, and the biggest share of those tranfers, 50%, swam away to the account of a Swedish person (Swerige was the main donator of the above rural project)....A Russian saying: Меньше знаешь-лучше спишь (~"The less You know-the better You sleep"). Life is
a dirty whore sometimes, Matt.
