The statement by the Turkish armed forces saying they are not planning a coup has been worded in coordination with embattled PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The statement was released Friday, after reports that the army is planning a forceful takeover after the country has been shaken by a high-profile corruption investigation that has seared the Erdogan cabinet.
Saturday the Milliet daily wrote that Turkish army chief of staff Gen Necdet Ozel, who has personally worked on the text of the message, has consulted the PM before the army released it.
Recent Turkish history has been marked by several military coups during times of instability.
During the longtime rule of Erdogan, who has been Turkey's PM since 2003, the country has witnessed a number of high-profile trials against senior military officers who faced court for allegedly plotting a takeover.
In its Friday message, the Turkish armed forces called for a reconsideration of sentences issued in the so-called Ergenekon and Balyoz trials, but also reiterated their commitment to stay out of the country's politics.
